Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for each level of meal plan?

Students residing in University housing are required to purchase a Dining Club Membership. First year students are required to purchase either the Platinum or Gold Memberships. The Bronze Membership is only available to students who live off-campus or reside in an on-campus apartment.

Will I be able to change my meal plan? When?

Yes. You have the ability change your Dining Club Membership each semester up to 2-weeks after the first day of classes. There will be a price adjustment for meal plan changes.

What if I have food allergies, gluten free, will there be options for me?

Your food servers are happy to answer your questions about the meals served and let you consult with the cook if needed. If you have special dietary needs, please report those to the Office of Student Affairs. Accommodations will be made on a case by case basis.

Will the meals be buffet style, all you can eat?

No, the new Dining Club Memberships have an emphasis on convenience of time and portability and provide combo meals for purchase with a swipe or Dining Dollars utilizing your Braves Card. Combo meal options will vary and be posted daily. A la Carte purchasing with your Dining Dollars will always be an option.

What if practice runs late, will I still be able to eat?

The new Dining Club Membership actually provides longer hours to be able to eat. The Food Court will have five dining stations where you can use swipes and/or Dining Dollars. Stations will open and close throughout the day beginning at 7:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m.  Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday. And 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on weekends. Hours may change on holidays, advising days or for special events.  Changes in hours will be posted.

Will the menu have prices for those without a Dining Club Membership?

Yes, The Food Court will be inviting to off-campus guests and students not on meal plans, menus and pricing will be posted

Will anyone be allowed to eat in the dining area?

The Food Court is open during Gibson Student Center hours. A purchase is not required to enter the seating area. Outside food will not be allowed to be brought into the facility, but guests are welcome to purchase items within the Food Court.

Can I swipe for friends or family?

Yes. Any swipes done with your Braves Card will be deducted from your allotted amount. You are welcome to use your swipes for anyone you choose, any day you chose, any time you choose.  Meals on weekly plans expire on Sunday Evening. Monday starts a new week.

What if my Braves Card gets stolen or lost?

You should IMMEDIATELY report a lost or stolen card to the Office of Student Affairs, so that the card can be inactivated and a new one re-issued.

What if I’m gone for a week and on the Bronze level membership do I lose them?

Swipes in the Bronze level membership are able to be utilized throughout the semester. You will only lose swipes at the end of each semester. Students on the weekly plans will lose remaining swipes at close of business on Sunday. Monday starts a new week.

Can I get things to go?

Will that be for here or to go?  All food items will have portability options and you are not required to eat in the dining room. Simply-to-go items, pre packages snacks and bottled beverages will available for purchase in the Food Court.

If I am with a team and get a sack lunch will they take it off my Dining Club Membership?

Yes, one swipe per sack lunch will be deducted from your weekly total.

Will I be able to use dining dollars anywhere outside the food station?

Dining Dollars are only available to be utilized within the Gibson Student Center facility. You may add Braves Cash to your Braves Card that can be used at other locations on campus, including vending machines, Braves Fan Shop/University Bookstore, laundry, Copy Center, etc. Once added you may also use your Braves Cash if you run out of Dining Dollars.  The Braves Cards are programmed to use Dining Dollars first in any Dining Operation and will only use Braves Cash if you have no Dining Dollar balance.

Will the beverage machines be open or will I have to wait to get a refill?

Each meal purchase comes with one refill using the cup provided with your original swipe or purchase during the meal it was purchased.

If I run out of swipes can I put cash on my card?

You are always able to add funds to your Braves Card. While your Dining Dollars are not able to be used outside of foodservice, your Braves Card will automatically use Braves Cash when you are out of Dining Dollars. Braves Cash can be added online at https://BravesCard.ottawa.edu, in the Business Office or at the ADM located in Behan Hall.

Gone are the days when you have to be in the cafeteria at a certain time to eat.  Our new Food Court features continuous dining Monday - Friday

  • Use your swipes whenever you want during the week
  • Choose to dine in or take any of your meals to go
  • Remember that Meal Cards are non-transferable. Meal cards cannot be used by anyone but the purchaser but you may swipe for a friend as long as you are present
